Here is a presentation of the types of users of Joomla, the various
groups to which can belong the members of a website developed with the CMS.
The assignment of those in such or such group will determine their
privileges and their restrictions.
The members of the public part (frontend) are
divided into 4 groups, presented according to their privileges, of that
having the rights the least important to that whose users will be able
to control all the contents of the site.

The users of the Registered group have less rights of all the users. They cannot act on the contents of
the website, their privileges are summarized with a right of access to the
private parts of the site.

Note:
- Any user of the private part of the website can also connect himself
to the public part, it will have same the rights as a Publisher.
At the contrary, no user of the frontend can reach the administration of the site.
- Any person who is registered on the public part of the website will
belong by default to the group Registered. To give higher rights to
him, a member of the private part will have then to modify his profile
and to place it in another group.
- The groups quoted in this article are those native in Joomla, they
cannot be modified or removed and it is not possible to either create
new groups since the administration. It is also strongly
disadvised to modify their configuration in the data base. There are
certain components (JACL for example) which allow to create
additional groups, but they present the drawback to modify the
core of Joomla.
- To finish, you will find a summary table clearly and visual on the Joomlafacile site (french).
